Architectural Shingles Done Right the First Time

The Fortified Shingle Division was built around one idea: Alabama homeowners deserve shingle roofing that's installed the way it's supposed to be, not the way that's fastest. We specialize in architectural (dimensional) shingles, impact-resistant rated systems, and storm-grade installations across North and Central Alabama.

We're a Malarkey certified installer. Malarkey makes some of the toughest shingles on the market — their smog-reducing granule technology, rubberized asphalt core, and Class 4 impact-resistant options make them the right choice for Alabama homes that see hail, high winds, and severe weather every spring. We stock and install the full Malarkey lineup including Legacy, Vista AR, and Highlander NEX.

On every shingle job we install self-adhering ice and water shield at all eaves, rakes, valleys, and penetrations — not just where code requires it, but wherever water finds a way in. We use synthetic underlayment over the full deck, properly spaced starter strips, and 6-nail patterns on all field shingles. It's the kind of installation that holds up when the next storm rolls through and your neighbor's shingles end up in the yard.

If your current roof was put on with 4 nails per shingle, no starter strips, and felt paper that's already dry-rotted — we've seen it — call us. A proper reinstall with current materials and proper nail placement can add 10-15 years to your shingle lifespan and significantly reduce wind uplift risk.

🏆

Malarkey Certified Installer

Malarkey's impact-resistant and smog-reducing shingle systems. Class 4 rated options available — may qualify for an insurance discount.

🌪️

Storm-Grade Installation

6-nail patterns, proper starter strips, self-adhering underlayment at all vulnerable points. Built to hold through Alabama storm seasons.

📐

Architectural & Dimensional

30-year and lifetime architectural shingles in dozens of color options. Better performance and better curb appeal than 3-tab at a reasonable price difference.

💧

Ice & Water Shield

Self-adhering ice and water shield at all eaves, valleys, rakes, and penetrations. Alabama gets ice storms — this protects you when it happens.

🛡️

Impact-Resistant Options

Class 4 IR shingles resist hail better and can qualify for insurance premium reductions. Ask us about IR options on your estimate.

🔍

Free Deck Inspection

Every shingle job includes a full decking inspection. Rotted OSB, improper nail patterns, ventilation problems — we find them and fix them before new shingles go down.

What Separates a Good Shingle Job from a Bad One

🔩

Nail Placement Matters

Shingles installed with nails too high fail in wind. We nail in the manufacturer's nail zone — every shingle, every time. It's not complicated, but most crews get it wrong.

🌬️

Proper Ventilation

Bad attic ventilation ruins shingles from the inside out. We assess your intake and exhaust before the job starts and recommend fixes if needed.

🏗️

Our Own Crews

We don't subcontract your roof to whoever called that morning. Our shingle crews work for us, follow our standards, and are accountable to us when something isn't right.

📋

Detailed Written Estimates

You'll know exactly what materials are going on your roof, what gauge nails, what underlayment, what warranty. No surprises after the job starts.

How We Install a Shingle Roof

1

Free Inspection & Estimate

We walk the roof, assess the decking, check ventilation, measure every plane, and give you a written estimate with materials specified by name and manufacturer.

2

Material Selection

We'll show you shingle samples and color options. If you're going through insurance, we help match the approved material to the best available Malarkey equivalent.

3

Tear-Off & Deck Prep

We remove the old shingles and underlayment, inspect the decking, replace any rotted or damaged OSB, and re-nail any loose decking before anything new goes on.

4

Underlayment & Ice Shield

Self-adhering ice and water shield at all eaves and valleys. Synthetic underlayment over the full deck. Drip edge installed to code.

5

Shingle Installation

Starter strips at all eaves and rakes. Field shingles installed with proper offset and 6-nail pattern. Hip and ridge shingles sealed and properly fastened.

6

Cleanup & Walkthrough

We magnet-sweep the yard for nails, haul off all old material, and walk the job with you before we leave. If something's not right, we fix it on the spot.
